Advanced Testing Facilities
The Testing process of Power Transformer involves a series of stringent tests and procedures conducted at different stages of manufacturing in ensuring the reliability, safety, and optimal performance in the electrical networks.
TAL EHV Laboratory has been assessed and accredited by NABL up to 400 KV, 500 MVA in accordance with the standards ISO/IEC 17025: 2017 for its competence of testing laboratories. NABL is an autonomous body setup under Ministry of Commerce & Industry Government of India (DPIIT) and is a constituent board of Quality Council of India (QCI). We have full- fledged plant machinery and Testing Equipments suitable for manufacturing up to 400 kV, 500 MVA.
Key Features of our Testing facility are:
- TAL's testing facilities are world-class, with independent test facilities in each manufacturing area equipped with modern instrumentation.
- Fully automated, computerized test benches employing advanced testing software for all routine, type and temperature rise tests, adhering to international standards.
- All Type, Special and Routine Tests (except for Short Circuit Test) are carried out (in-house) in accordance with International Standards like IS 2026 & IEC 60076.
- Short circuit tests undergo third-party testing at CPRI
- In-house Oil Test Lab, for Transformer Oil, as per IS 335/IEC 60296 & DGA testing
- Impulse voltage withstand ability tests are carried out through two impulse generators (1600 kVp, 160 kJ and 900 kVp, 45 kJ) from Haefely, Switzerland with expandable capacity to test transformers of 765 kV voltage class
- TAL’s test lab has been assessed and accredited in accordance with the standard ISO/ IEC 17025:2017 for upto 400 KV, 500 MVA by National Accreditation Board for Testing Calibration Laboratories (NABL)

In- House Testing
Special Test, Routine and Type Testing
A. Special Tests as per IEC 60076-1,
As per IEC 60076-1, Short Circuit test comes under Special Test Category. Transformers supplied up to 220 kV have been successfully short circuit tested in accordance with IEC 60076 and IS 2026, in Central Power Research Institute (CPRI), a member of STL International group of testing laboratories.
B. Special Tests as per IEC 60076-1,
All In-House facilities are available for carrying out following Special Tests, except short circuit test:
- Dielectric special tests (IEC 60076-3)
- Winding hot-spot temperature-rise measurements
- Determination of capacitances windings-to-earth, and between windings
- Measurement of dissipation factor (tan d) of the insulation system capacitances
- Determination of transient voltage transfer characteristics (Annex B of IEC 60076-3:2000).
- Measurement of zero-sequence impedance(s) on three-phase transformers (11.6)
- Measurement of d.c. insulation resistance each winding to earth and between windings
- Vacuum deflection test on liquid immersed transformers (11.9)
- Pressure deflection test on liquid immersed transformers (11.10)
- Vacuum tightness test on site on liquid immersed transformers (11.11)
- Frequency response (Frequency Response Analysis or FRA)
- Check of external coating (ISO 2178 and ISO 2409 or as specified)
- Measurement of dissolved gasses in dielectric liquid
- Mechanical test or assessment of tank for suitability for transport
C. Type Tests as per IEC 60076-1,
All In-House facilities are available for carrying out following Type Tests:
- Di-Electric Type Tests (IEC 60076-3)
