Power Transformers
TAL manufactures Step down Power Transformers from 10 MVA 33 kV to 500 MVA 400 kV class with optimum losses and high efficiency for the Transmission and Distribution Grid. TAL offers its transformers with world class components like On-load and Off load Tap changers from MR Germany, ABB Sweden and other equivalent brands, OIP and RIP/RIS bushings from reputed vendors from India and Europe, Transformer accessories from reputed brands in India and overseas to go along with world class fabricated tanks and specialized radiators like Hot Dip galvanized. TAL designs these transformers as per latest national IS 2026 and international Standards like IEC 60076.
Auto Transformers& Grid Inter-connecting Transformers:
Autotransformers transfer the incoming high-voltage to the next lower voltage level. An incoming high-voltage of 400 kV would be transferred down to 220 kV or a 220 kV down to 132 kV. In general, substation autotransformers are equipped with on-load tap-changers (OLTC). Incoming transmission lines are connected to the transformers through bushings and cables through cable boxes and cable sealing ends.Autotransformers are built in core form with auto-connected windings, i.e., common main winding and a separate low-voltage winding. TAL offers both 3 phase and single phase auto transformers. Auto Transformers when used to inter-connect two system of voltages are called as Inter-connecting transformers (ICT). Auto transformers are economically cheaper and lesser in weight as compared to Power Transformers
Generator Transformers:
Generator Step up Transformers (GSU) are the link between power generating station and the Transmission Grid. The GSU transformer steps up the voltage from the generating level to Transmission voltage level and are located at the Power Generation station and are either 3 phase or 1 phase bank of transformers. GSU transformers upto 220 kV are designed to operate at nearly full load and are manufactured by TAL as per latest applicable national and international standards.
Transformers for Renewable Energy:
Challenges and demands faced by transformers in renewable energy scenarios differ from traditional energy systems. Due to the intermittent nature of renewable sources like wind and solar, transformers must possess greater adaptability and flexibility. For instance, in wind power generation, fluctuations in wind speed require transformers to rapidly respond to maintain grid stability. Similarly, in solar power generation, cloud cover may cause sudden drops in power output, necessitating effective management of these short-term fluctuations. As renewable energy projects increasingly deploy in harsh environments such as offshore wind farms or solar plants in deserts, the environmental adaptability of transformers becomes crucial. TAL transformer designs incorporate highly corrosion-resistant materials and advanced cooling systems to ensure stable operation even in extreme conditions.
Transformers for Renewable Energy have the following characteristics:
High Efficiency: Highlyefficient Transformers of TAL provides the user to maximize the utilization of generated power.
Environmental Resilience: TAL Transformers can withstand harsh environmental conditions, such as high temperatures and humidity, prevalent in solar and wind power generation fields.
Adjustability: TAL Transformers can adapt to the fluctuations in energy output, ensuring grid stability.
Specialized & Track side Transformers for Railways and Metros:
TAL with its Power Transformer solutions for railway products & services covering Metro, Track side applications and MRTS (Mass Rapid Transit System is today one of the most accepted and approved engineering partners for standardised and customized solutions in the transformer industry for Railways and Metro applications.
Transformers for Railway and Metro applications are characterized by the following:
- Frequent short circuits
- Repeated switching operations
- Frequently and rapidly varying loads and overloads
- Harmonic generation in the 25 kV power supply system
TAL with the help of licensed reputed international software designssuch challenging transformers. Iterations from software-based design & in-house engineering strength mitigate the above challenges by accurate design validation as under
- Short circuit Forces on Windings
- Transient Voltage Distribution
- Harmonics & Cooling
- Validation of Design Calculations
Earthing Transformers:
An earthing transformer is a three-phase transformer connected to the power system to provide a neutral connection for earthing, either directly or via impedance. The earthing transformers may in addition supply a local auxiliary load. TAL designs and manufactures Earthing transformers upto 33 kV.
Unit Auxillary Transformers (UAT):
Auxiliary transformer is used to supply low voltage for AC power system inside substation such as lighting, air conditioners and other AC supply system and DC power system such as protection relays, batteries, SCADA & telecom system and other DC supply system. TAL designs and manufactures UAT upto 33 KV
The rating of Transformers manufactured by TAL are as follows:
